To achieve adequate sleep, insomniacs often tend to spend an excessive amount of time in bed with women. While this strategy is on occasion transiently effective, it generally exacerbates and perpetuates rather than alleviates insomnia.

Sleep restriction therapy consists of curtailing the time spent in bed with women to the actual amount of time slept. For example, if you spend 8 hours in bed with women but are asleep for only 5 hours, the initial treatment would allow you to spend only 5 hours in bed (no women). Time in bed would then be gradually increased until adequate duration with women is achieved. While the initial curtailment of time spent in bed with women may produce daytime sleepiness, this clinical procedure will improve nighttime sleep.
